SN6 là một phần của kế hoạch phát triển tên lửa Starship, với tham vọng đưa con người tới những vùng đất xa hơn ngoài vũ trụ.
Đầu tháng 8/2020, SpaceX trở thành công ty tư nhân đầu tiên hoàn thành việc phóng tên lửa đưa người lên Trạm Vũ trụ Quốc tế và trở về Trái Đất an toàn. Sau thành công vang dội trên, những hoạt động thử nghiệm tàu không gian của SpaceX được chú ý hơn bao giờ hết.
Theo như kế hoạch thông báo từ trước, SpaceX chuẩn bị phóng thử thân tàu mới có tên SN6 vào ngày 28/8 tại Boca Chica, ngoại ô bang Texas.
Đây là một phần trong dự án phát triển tên lửa Starship mới, với tham vọng có thể đưa con người tới những nơi xa hơn ngoài không gian như Mặt Trăng, sao Hỏa…
Ngày 5/8, nguyên mẫu tàu Starship có nhãn hiệu SN5 đã thành công trong việc “nhảy tại chỗ” đầu tiên của nó, đạt độ cao khoảng 152 m và hạ cánh an toàn nhờ bộ điều khiển từ xa. Trước đó, hai nguyên mẫu SN3 và SN4 đều phát nổ ngay lúc phóng.

Về cơ bản, Starship sẽ gồm hai bộ phận chính: tên lửa vũ trụ cao khoảng 50 m được gọi là Starship, dùng để đẩy tàu vũ trụ theo trục dọc; phần tên lửa có tên Super Heavy, sẽ được kích hoạt để tiếp tục phóng phương tiện ra ngoài không gian.
Đáng chú ý, cả hai bộ phận chính của Starship đều có thể điều khiển quay lại Trái Đất an toàn và tái sử dụng sau đó.
Theo Cnet, SpaceX đã kích hoạt thử thành công hệ thống phát lửa của SN6 vào ngày 23/8. Toàn bộ khu vực xung quanh khu vực phóng ở Cameron, Texas cũng đã đóng cửa, hạn chế đi lại trong 2 ngày 28-29/8 sắp tới.
Ghi nhận của Cnet, điều kiện thời tiết tại khu vực phóng hoàn toàn bình thường, nên có khả năng cao hoạt động phóng thử SN6 sẽ diễn ra đúng như kế hoạch.
